REPENTANCE (TAUBAH)

 ISLAM AND CHARITY

Charity means something given to help the needy by giving money, food, etc. There are two forms of charity in Islam - obligatory and voluntary, called zakathand sadaqa respectively. Zakah, from the verb zaka, which signifies "to thrive," "to be wholesome," "to be pure" means purification. Giving up of a portion of the wealth one may possess in excess of what is needed for sustenance, is to "purify" or legalize it so that the remainder may lawfully be used by the alms giver.

 


BASIC SOURCE OF ISLAM

For a Muslim who doesn't want to go astray, it is necessary to refer to the Qur'aan and Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) for all the matters. Allah says in the Qur'an: "O you who believe! Obey Allah and the Messenger and those of you (Muslims) who are in authority. (And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him), if you believe in Allah and in the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final determination." Qur'an Surah Nisa 4:59
