DAY OF TARWIYAH

It is the 8^th day of the month of Dhul-Hijjah. On this day, the pilgrims proceed to Mina to spend the night. This is being the first day of Hajj. 

Introduction

On the 8^th of Zul-Hijjah, a Pilgrim performing Hajj At-Tamatt'u should assume Ihraam again from where he is staying, saying: "Labbayka Allaahumma Hajjan".

It is better to leave for Mina in the morning. In Mina, the pilgrims pray Thuhr, 'Asr, Maghrib and 'Ishaa' of the 8^th and Fajr of the 9^th ('Arafah day). Zuhr, 'Asr and 'Ishaa' are shortened to two Rak'ahs, but are not combined, Sahih al-Bukhari 1083. One should increase remembrance of Allaah and supplication, and repeat Talbiyyah. ^[1]

Hadith

Narrated Abdullah Ibn Abbas(R):The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) offered the noon prayer on the 8th of Dhul-Hijjah (Yawm at-Tarwiyah) and dawn prayer on the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah (Yawm al-Arafah) in Mina. Sunan Abi Dawud 1911

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prayed in Mina, on the Day of Tarwiyah (the 8th of Dhul-Hijjah), Zuhr, ‘Asr, Maghrib, ‘Isha’ and Fajr, then he went in the morning to ‘Arafat. Sunan Ibn Majah Hadith 3004  ^[2]
